Founded in 1991 on the shores of Lake Lucerne, IMI International Management Institute Switzerland is driven by a singular mission: to provide world-class, personalised education in hospitality, business, and culinary arts. We blend Swiss academic excellence with innovation, professionalism, diversity, and a familial approach to learning.
IMI Switzerland was founded in 1991 by Mr. Heinz Bürki, who wanted to build a hospitality school that combined the strength of Swiss traditions with a personal, human approach. The school has remained a Swiss family-owned institution ever since. Heinz and his daughter Isabelle, now serving as Vice President, have built an inclusive and supportive community that feels like a home away from home for students.
With team members from many parts of the world, IMI’s faculty and staff are as international as our student community. They work closely with each student, encourage curiosity, and help develop individual strengths. This personal approach ensures that students feel supported throughout their studies. With their strong industry backgrounds and diverse perspectives, our lecturers are well equipped to prepare the next generation of hospitality and business professionals. Meet the IMI team below.
Our campus is more than just classrooms – it’s a community. Located only 15 minutes from Lucerne’s city center, our tranquil lakeside campus offers the best of both worlds. You study surrounded by stunning alpine beauty, and yet the cultural excitement of Luzern is just a short bus ride away.
On campus, you’ll find state-of-the-art training kitchens, a fine-dining student-run restaurant, modern classrooms, and comfortable accommodation – all in one place. With a tight-knit student body, it’s easy to make friends and feel at home. IMI is often described by our students as a ‘global family’.
